Product news: Claude Code mods let developers reshape the assistant, making tool configuration part of software literacy

Anthropic introduced Claude Code mods on October 1: small TypeScript extensions that can alter behaviour and interface elements and are distributed through plugins. They run with Claude Code's machine access and are not sandboxed. Compared with OpenAI's recent developer-platform extensions and Gemini's coding tools, the release makes a useful educational topic: students should understand how configuration changes an assistant, how to test those changes, and who is responsible for the resulting behaviour.
