It can draft a presentation from notes, documents, spreadsheets, or other source material; add or revise slides in an existing deck; answer questions about the presentation's story and gaps; and adapt the result for a particular audience. The experience is available through the Microsoft Marketplace for accounts with access. Because the output remains editable, an educator or learner can inspect and change individual elements instead of accepting a flattened image or exported file.
For education, that editability is useful but not sufficient. A generated deck can look coherent while misrepresenting a source, inventing a link between ideas, weakening disciplinary language, or hiding what the learner actually understands. A stronger use would require a source map, an explanation of the intended audience, a record of major revisions, accessibility checks, and a short oral defence of the final structure. Teachers can also compare the generated sequence with their learning objectives and ask whether visuals clarify a concept or merely decorate it.
Anthropic's Claude for Microsoft 365 extends the workspace-native pattern across Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. Anthropic says context can carry between open files and applications: Claude can inspect a document, update a spreadsheet model, build slides in an existing template, revise Word content with tracked changes, and prepare an Outlook draft that still waits for the user to send. The Excel, PowerPoint, and Word experiences are generally available on paid Claude plans, while Outlook remains in beta. Organizations can also connect through Microsoft Foundry, Amazon Bedrock, or Google Cloud Vertex AI.
In a university or school office, cross-file context could help a team turn curriculum notes into a briefing, compare programme data, revise a policy, or prepare parent and staff communication. The same continuity raises governance questions. A conversation that carries from inbox to document to deck may combine information with different access rules. Institutions need to define which accounts and files are in scope, minimize personal data, preserve tracked changes, and keep consequential messages behind an explicit human send or approval step. Students should not be asked to place identifiable peer data or confidential assessment material into an assistant simply because it is embedded in familiar software.
Google's June education update provides the most explicitly instructional comparison. It frames Gemini's education purpose around keeping educators in the lead, grounding activities in curriculum, and giving teachers actionable insight into student work. Teacher-led Guided Learning can provide a focused, curriculum-informed study space; study notebooks can create short lessons and adaptive quiz preparation; and NotebookLM can turn approved class materials into flash cards, audio, and other interactive supports. Google also launched a Classroom app in Gemini that can use assignments, grades, and class materials to help an educator examine progress and draft tailored activities. Google states that Workspace for Education data is not used to train its AI models, and notes that the Classroom app is currently available globally in English for Workspace for Education users over 18.
An independent June 2026 industry report from the FII Institute and the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University places these products in a broader educational frame. It names ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini as leading general-purpose systems used by teachers for lesson planning, assessment, and materials, and by students for research, writing, coding, and conceptual understanding. More importantly, the report argues that education must continue cultivating non-negotiable human capacities such as agency, judgment, responsibility, critical thinking, and sustained reflection rather than treating efficiency as the learning goal.
For Hong Kong schools and universities, the combined signal is that AI governance must follow the work into everyday files and course systems. A useful pilot should begin with a bounded task, approved source material, clear data rules, and a rubric that separates artifact quality from learner understanding. It should record what the assistant changed, require people to verify claims and calculations, preserve an independent performance component, and measure whether the workflow saves time without weakening learning or professional judgment. Vendor pages document product capabilities, not independent evidence of educational benefit. The opportunity is a more inspectable drafting and revision process; the risk is making delegation so seamless that no one can later explain who decided what.
